The World Festival of Animated Film – Animafest Zagreb (June 5 – 10, 2017), established in 1972, is the second oldest film festival in the world completely dedicated to animation. As one of the leading international animation events, Animafest presents the best and latest works competing for awards and the most relevant and interesting trends. During six days devoted to animation, over 350 films were shown and numerous side events were organized.
The screening of the selection VAF NEW TALENTS 2018 took place on June 8, as a part of section ‘Animafest Special Program’. The Polish national coordinator of the VAF, Dorota Chmielewska, made a short presentation about the activities of the platform Visegrad Animation Forum, introduced the project VAF New Talents and briefly explained the pitching rules for VAF Trebon 2018.
We are very glad to follow the films that pitched at VAF Trebon in the past. One of them is the Estonian-Croatian-Canadian co-production (Chintis Lundgreni Animatsioonistuudio / Adriatic Animation / NFB) by Chintis Lundgren – Manivald – the winner of the Best Croatian Film at Animafest.
Grand Competition – Short Film jury, consisting of Michaela Pavlátová, Rosto, Amid Amidi, Nobuaki Doi and Marko Tadić decided to give the Grand Prix – Short Film to Nighthawk by Špela Čadež, produced by Finta Film, Radio-Television of Slovenia and Bonobo studio. Student Film Competition and Croatian Film Competition jury decided to give Dušan Vukotić Award for the best student film to Polish film Pussy by Renata Gąsiorowska, made at National Film School in Lodz. The award for the Best Animation School went to Film and TV School of Academy of Performing Arts in Prague – FAMU. The full list of the winners at Animafest Zagreb you can find here.
